Phil Silcock, a stroke survivor from Haywards Heath is supporting the Stroke Association’s ‘I am more than my stroke’ Christmas appeal after the charity helped him after a devastating stroke left him unable to walk or talk.

The Stroke Association is celebrating after being awarded a grant of National Lottery funding to launch a new project: Active Lives After Stroke. The charity has been awarded £213,620 to support four projects across England, including North Devon.
The Stroke Association’s annual Christmas carol service will this year take place on Wednesday 12 December at Holy Trinity Church, Sloane Street.

Grace Matthews, 16, from Crickhowell, has won a national Carer Award for her dedication in supporting her mum recover after a stroke. Grace was just 13 when her mum, Heidi, had a stroke which affected her speech and sight.
Emma Raven, 37, from Bootle in Merseyside, has won a national courage award for her commitment to raising awareness of stroke after surviving her own stroke in 2014. Emma’s stroke caused her to miscarry her baby and left her with long-term disabililties.
Liz Topliss, 75, from Sutton Coldfield in the West Midlands, has won a national award for volunteering after leading a stroke group and supporting the stroke community in various roles for almost 40 years.
A choir made up of stroke survivors, charity staff, volunteers, health professionals and family members has won a national award, for the impact it makes to local people affected by stroke.
