Last chance to sign up for the Bedell Cycle Challenge in aid of the Stroke Association, Jersey
With 10 weeks to go until the group departs, the Stroke Association would like to invite last minute sign-ups ahead of the cut-off date for registrations (Friday 18 July). With a great 10-week training guide available, it’s not too late to get fit and ready for this brilliant challenge - all regular and social cyclists are encouraged to take part.
Taking place from Tuesday 23 September and finishing in Jersey on Sunday 28 September, this is a great opportunity to be part of an exciting, historical challenge from Paris to Jersey in order to support people whose lives have been turned upside down by stroke on the Island. It’s also a great chance to boost your own fitness at the same time.
The cyclists will tour the small villages and medieval market towns of Northern France, taking in some of the WW2 sites around Caen and the Normandy beaches as well as having a chance to call in at some of the famous museums along the route. Being the 70 Anniversary of the D-Day landings, it’s a fantastic time to experience this incredible part of Northern France.
As well as the 10-week training guide, all cyclists will receive fantastic support from the organisers and Stroke Association to be as prepared as possible for the event. A comprehensive Bike Training Guide is provided on sign-up; along with weekly emails providing general support, hints and tips around exercise, diet and general fitness.
Ian Black, Chairman of the Stroke Association in Jersey and signed-up cyclist said: “The important thing to remember is this trip is open to anyone who enjoys being on a bike; it’s not exclusive to serious cyclists. As long as you have a bike that’s in good condition and can commit to the training programme, you are more than welcome to join us. The funds raised from this challenge will continue to support the life-enhancing work that the Stroke team delivers in Jersey, for Jersey residents and we would love to see some more sign-ups during the course of this week.”
A stroke can happen to anyone at any time. It is estimated that around 125 people in Jersey have a stroke each year and there are hundreds of people living with the effects of stroke in Jersey. Over the last year, the Stroke Association has supported 70 people, nearly half of whom live alone.
